The Trip Down Under
Bill Muneio | November 21, 2009The trip is about to begin. Everything is packed and we will soon be headed to the airport. I’ve gone over my list multiple times but I’m sure there’s something I forgot, not to worry I’m sure it will come to me during the 14.5 hour flight to Sydney. I understand the Aussies like their morning, afternoon and evening cocktails. So I figure after a week in Australia trying to acclimate to driving on the wrong side of the road and drinking like a fish (not at the same time of course) I should be ready to head to New Zealand and pick up the BMW 800GS that’s waiting for me, and hit the open road. Stay tuned for the next update…and you can follow me by clicking on the GPS Tracking tab above.

@Muneio – Wow have a great trip. I wish I was down there riding.
Hey Bill, I just left the same area last week and took the good weather with me…sorry!
Make sure you ride Takaka Hill Rd before moving away from Motueka too far…268 corners in 22km……
Will try and follow your movements and suggest more spots
Have a great trip!
Thanks for the recommendation and I finally got the sunshine back today
howdy bill
will be following your travels. enjoy

Best of luck Bill! Love NZ and I think it would be great to ride around it! Best of luck, hope the weather gets better for you!
Cheers,
Michelle
Hi Bill,
As a regular Ozzi who “crosses the Ditch” to ride the fantastic roads, I have learned 3 valuable lessons about riding in NZ.
1. Buy a small compact ‘hair drier’ – fantastic for drying gear.
2. Use the “Lonely Planet”guide to find cheap Cabins in Holiday Parks – much better than a tent in the rain.
3. Book your accomadation B4 2pm.
Also don’t be afraid to ask for help in the small country towns.
The South Islanders are fantastic – especially WestCoast, (not
the just Tourist places like the Glacier towns)
Hi Fred,
Thanks for the tips.
